Door off track or a cable loose in Bonita Springs? Don't move it
A door hanging at an angle is holding its weight on the wrong parts. Moving it, or pressing the button to see what happens, can bend the track or bring the door down. Cut power to the opener, move the car out of reach, and call or send us a photo by text.
- Time at your house: About an hour for cables; 1 to 2 hours to rehang a door

What an off-track door looks like
- One side sits lower than the other, closed or stopped halfway.
- A cable hangs slack, has slipped off its drum at a top corner, or is frayed near the bottom.
- Rollers have popped out of the track, or a track bows away from the door.
- The door jammed after a car bumper touched it, or after something was left in its path.
- A spring broke recently and now the cables are loose; start with spring repair.
How doors leave the track
Cables usually let go at the bottom brackets, where rainwater and salt sit and rust the strands. When a spring breaks, its cable loses tension and can jump off the drum. A bumper that clips the door, a track that took a knock or a roller that's seized can push the door sideways too. The cause decides the repair, so we find it before we rehang anything.
Putting it back safely
First the door is clamped and propped so it can't drop. Then the tension comes off in a controlled way, the door is brought level, bent track is straightened or replaced, and new cables go onto the drums as a matched pair. We run it by hand, then on the opener, and send you photos of the new cables and the corners we worked on. If a section buckled on the way out, the panel repair option is on the quote before we order anything.
Permit
Bonita Springs' list of work exempt from permits (Sec. 10-21) doesn't mention garage door cables or tracks, so we check with the city's building department first and tell you their answer.
Off-track and cable questions
In most cases, yes: the door is rehung, the track straightened or replaced, and the cables and rollers renewed, and it runs as before. A new section is needed only if a panel buckled when the door came out.
Most cables fail at the bottom corner, where water and salt air rust the strands, or right after a spring breaks and the cable goes slack. We check the springs every time a cable goes, since the two often fail together.
No. With one cable, the other side takes all the weight, which can pull the door out of the track or snap the second cable. Keep it closed and unplugged until it's repaired.
