Fixing garage door openers in Bonita Springs, with the likely part on the truck
An opener that clicks, hums or runs without moving the door usually has one worn part, not a dead motor. Send us a photo of the label on the motor housing: with the make and model, we can bring the gear, the board or the part it most likely needs.

What the opener is doing
- The bulb lights up, yet the motor won't run.
- The motor runs, the door doesn't: a stripped drive gear, or the trolley was released with the red cord.
- A hum with hardly any movement; check the springs before blaming the opener.
- The door heads back up before closing; that's usually the safety sensors.
- Only the wall button works; see remotes, keypads and car buttons.
- It stops partway, or reverses when nothing blocks it: force or travel settings, or a door that binds.
We check the door before the opener
An opener fighting a heavy, unbalanced door wears out early. Before repairing one, we release it and test the door's balance by hand. If the door doesn't balance, the springs come first, or the new part will wear the same way. After that come the gear, the circuit board, the trolley, the wiring and the sensors.
Repair it or replace it
A stripped gear, a failed board or a worn trolley are repairs. A new opener makes more sense when parts are no longer made, when the board and the motor both failed, or when you want battery backup for storm outages. The written quote shows both prices, so the choice is yours.
Not sure the opener is the culprit? Our troubleshooting guide sorts problems by symptom, and a car shut in tonight is an emergency.
Permit
Bonita Springs' list of work exempt from permits (Sec. 10-21) doesn't mention garage door openers, so we check with the city's building department first and tell you their answer.
Opener repair questions
Usually the opener was disconnected with the red cord, or a plastic drive gear inside has stripped. Run it once to see if the trolley hooks back on; if the motor runs and still nothing moves, the gear is the likely part.
Repair it when the motor is sound and parts are available. Replace it when the board and the motor have both failed, the parts are discontinued, or you want battery backup or a quieter drive. We write up both options so you decide.
In most cases, yes, as long as parts for it are still made. A photo of the label on the unit tells us before the visit whether we can get them.
